Team Tennis 2022

SCTC offers a 7-month season of competitive and fun social Team Tennis at two different levels. This is a very popular part of SCTC's annual calendar of events, so be sure not to miss it!

Team Tennis and Advanced Team tennis teams play mixed and same-gender doubles tennis for four hours on Sunday morning. Everyone on the team plays in all of the matches. Teams are determined based on ensuring a fair balance of rating among the four teams. Each player will typically play one Mixed match and one same-sex match on Sunday morning.

Registration opens on March 2 at 5:30 for the 2022 season, which runs from April through October.

There are separate registrations for ADVANCED team and TRADITIONAL team tennis leagues. Please read details on the EVENTS & SIGN UP Tab when registering to ensure you are in the correct league based on your USTA ranking:

Members with a rating of 3.5 and below register for and play in the Traditional league, while those rated 4.0 or above register for and play in the Advanced league.

2022 matches are played one Sunday per month, as follows:

Traditional league (second Sundays): 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (in two 2-hour shifts) on April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11, and October 9.

Advanced league (fourth Sundays):
9:00 am to 1:00 pm (in two 2-hour shifts) on April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, August 28, September 25, and October 23.

Please only consider playing if you will be committed to making the majority of the matches. Otherwise, we invite you to sign up for the wait list once the paid registration list is full.

Membership in SCTC is required for participation in Team Tennis and you are not considered registered until you have paid for the event. Please make every effort to pay online at the point of registration. Registration will open at 5:30 pm sharp on March 2nd and close once the gender/rating maximum is met. You will be contacted by your team captain a few weeks before the first match.

Contact Tiffany Truong (traditional) at teamtennis@sancarlostennis.com and Vicky Leong (advanced) at advancedteamtennis@sancarlostennis.com with questions.

More info can be found on the Events page, once it posts.

Team Tennis Introduction
What is Team Tennis?

Team Tennis is an intraclub activity. This year we will again have two different leagues of Team Tennis. The Traditional league is for players with ratings between 2.5 - 3.5. The Advanced League is for players with ratings between 4.0-4.5. Four to Six teams are formed in the Traditional league, four teams in the Advanced league, and the teams will play one another once each month, or every other week (through 2021 - or until USTA opens up).

Being on a Team Tennis league team is an exciting and rewarding way to meet and get to know other SCTC members while playing lots of tennis. The premise of Team Tennis is social tennis in a fun and relaxing environment, with a healthy dose of competition.

ON HOLD DUE TO PANDEMIC: Prizes are awarded to the four teams that make the playoffs (in the advanced league, all four teams make playoffs, but only the top team is awarded prizes).

What is the Roster Size and Match Format?

During 2022, the format for Traditional Team tennis has been revised.  4 teams; 2 pro-style sets per player. Each team plays at total of 8 games. (24 men, 24 women players for the traditional league; 16 men, 16 women players for advanced league).

Teams consist of approximately 8 players, split between male and female. Each person on the team will play two pro style sets. In both the traditional and advanced leagues, there will be 8 pro sets in all (set players will be determined after sign-ups are complete and teams are formed). The teams will be balanced as much as possible.

When are the matches played?

Matches are played alternate Sundays of each month.

How do I sign up?
The cost per member is $40.00. Players sign up individually and will be assigned to a team, as determined by the Coordinator and team captains using a Draft System, which includes trades to equal out team playing levels. Go to the Events and Sign Up page to register. Spots on teams are allocated on a first-come (paid), first-served basis.

Who are the team captains?

It could be you! We need 6 captains to lead the 6 traditional teams, and 4 captains to lead the advanced teams. Being a captain is fun and rewarding. It is not much work – just communicate with your players as to when they are expected to be at the courts and work out who plays in what events.

What are the rules for matches?

A complete set of Team Tennis Rules is provided. It is a good idea to print out a copy and keep them in your tennis bag for easy reference.
